Chipola Comes Out on Top

The Chipola Indians (29-9, 8-1) and Pensacola State lit up the scoreboard on Saturday as they combined for 34 runs. In the end, Chipola Indians won the offensive battle 21-13.

The teams banged out 25 hits hits between them, as well as 10 for extra bases.

The Indians beat PSC thanks to 15 hits, including six extra base hits. They scored seven runs in the third on an RBI single by Myles Edwards, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch, and a grand slam home run by Maurice Cooley.

Additional home runs for the Chipola Indians came when Jose Caballero homered in the fourth inning, Tyler Osik homered in the eighth inning, and Franklin Van Gurp homered in the ninth inning.

Riley Cabral (4-4) got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings in relief. Cabral struck out six, walked four and gave up two hits.

Six hitters combined for nine hits, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

The Chipola Indians added three more runs in the top of the fourth. A single by Edwards ignited the offense,, scoring Jay Estes. That was followed up by Caballero's two-run home run, bringing home Edwards.

The Chipola Indians increased their lead with four runs in the ninth. 

Chipola hopes to finish off Game 3 of their rain-heavy series at NWF tomorrow, April 3 in Niceville. First-pitch is scheduled for 2pm CST.
