Big Innings Push Chipola to 15-8 Win

A superb effort by Jose Caballero and Reynaldo Rivera led the Chipola Indians (26-9, 5-1) to a 15-8 win over Tallahassee on Monday at Chipola College.

Caballero rocked Tallahassee with two home runs. Caballero went 3-6 in the game with five RBIs and three runs scored. Caballero homered in the third and fifth innings.

The two teams combined for 23 runs and 29 hits, including 13 extra base hits. There were 11 pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.

The Chipola Indians beat Tallahassee thanks to 18 hits, including eight extra base hits. The Chipola Indians scored five runs in the fifth on the Chipola Indians scored in the fifth on an RBI single by Wood Myers, a three-run home run by Caballero, and an RBI double by Reynaldo Rivera. Rivera was 4-5 with 5 RBI's. He had two doubles and one home run. 

Tallahassee scored three runs in the top of the fifth to cut its deficit to three. An RBI single by Mac Wilson and a two-run single by Zach Featherstone fueled Tallahassee's comeback. But, Cabral got Kyle Cavanaugh to fly out to end the inning.

Additional home runs for the Chipola Indians came when Rivera homered in the fourth inning and Caballero homered in the third and fifth innings.

The lead stayed with the Chipola Indians after the third, when they scored five runs on a two-run double by Rivera, a two-run home run by Caballero, and an RBI single by Keiner Colmenarez.

It didn't take long for the Chipola Indians to respond as they scored three runs of their own in the fourth. The Chipola Indians scored on an error and a two-run home run by Rivera.

Riley Cabral (3-4) allowed five runs over five innings. Cabral struck out 10, walked none and gave up six hits.

The Indians are on the road Wednesday, March 23 at Northwest Florida State College. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm CST.

Chipola will host NWF Friday, March 25 at 5pm CST.
