Chipola Sweeps Grand Rapids

The Chipola Indians (21-8) jumped out to an early lead on Grand Rapids and captured a 14-1 victory on Wednesday at Chipola College.

The game was decided quickly as the Chipola Indians exerted their will early with 10 runs in the first three innings.

An RBI double by Michael Hickman, an RBI double by Michael Rojas, an RBI double by Myles Edwards, an RBI single by Reynaldo Rivera, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Ty Russ during the first inning and a solo home run by Wood Myers, his first of the year, in the second inning helped the Chipola Indians put some runs on the board early.

The Indians piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third. The inning looked promising, as Keiner Colmenarez singled, plating Michael Rojas to kick things off.

The lead was increased with four runs in the fourth. A clutch hit into a fielder's choice scored Michael Hickman to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Russ' double, bringing home Michael Rojas, Edwards, and Rivera.

Myers racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Chipola Indians.

Five Indians combined for a one-hitter in five innings. Jackson Bellenkes got the win for the Chipola Indians. He allowed one run over two innings. Kevin Craft, Franklin Van Gurp, Kyle Schweiger, and Robbie Knox finished out the game.

Seven hitters combined for 13 hits, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
