Indians Win at Alabama Southern, 14-5

The Chipola Indians (10-2) went on the road and beat Alabama Southern on Wednesday 14-5 in a run-rule game after eight innings.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the fifth, with five lead changes.

The top of the second saw the Chipola Indians take an early lead, 3-0. Rivera doubled to ignite the Chipola Indians' offense. A groundout by Tyler Osik then moved Rivera from second to third. Michael Rojas doubled, bringing home Rivera. The Indians then tacked on more runs when Rojas scored on a groundout by Silverstein and Russ scored on an RBI double by Jay Estes.

Alabama Southern answered the Chipola Indians' top inning with three runs of its own in the fourth. Alabama Southern scored on an RBI single by Dylan Crutcher, an RBI single by Trace Johnston, and a hit by pitch.

The Indians separated themselves after scoring five runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Reynaldo Rivera, a two-run single by Michael Rojas, a groundout by Jacob Silverstein, and an error.

The Chipola Indians increased their lead with three runs in the seventh. Silverstein's double got things going, plating Osik.

Michael Rojas racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Chipola Indians.

Six Chipola hitters combined for 13 hits, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Four relief pitchers finished off the game for the Chipola Indians. Hudson Graham faced four batters in relief, while Kevin Craft managed to record three outs to aid the victory. Jackson Bellenkes was credited with the win after going 2.2 innings in relief allowing 0 earned runs with 3 strikeouts and 1 hit. 

The Indians are back in action this weekend as they play five games in three days against Gordon State and Columbia State at Chipola Field in Marianna, FL. First pitch Friday, February 19 vs Gordon State is scheduled for 3pm CST.
