SJR State Walks Off Chipola

Chipola fell victim to a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday, handing St. Johns River a 5-4 win at Palatka, FL.

With the score tied at four, Cole Perry came to the plate and doubled, scoring Matthew Rhodes from second base.

Chipola held a 4-3 lead heading into the ninth. After a leadoff strikeout, SJR State walked. Chipola closer Riley Cabral would get the next hitter to foul out. With two outs, SJR State had three consecutive hits to walk-off the Indians. 

Reynaldo Rivera racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Chipola Indians. He tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Ryan Ross got the win in relief for St. Johns River. Ross pitched three innings and allowed no runs.

Harlan Harris, Perry and Rhodes helped lead St. Johns River. They combined for eight hits and three RBIs.

Riley Cabral ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed two runs.

The top of the first saw the Indians take an early lead, 1-0. SJR State scored 2 in the bottom of the 2nd. Chipola scored 3 in the 4th to take a 4-2 lead but was unable to hang on. 

Chipola was 3-1 on the weekend. Its record now stands at 9-2. 

The Indians are in action again on Wednesday, February 17 at Alabama Southern at 2pm CST.

Chipola hosts Gordon State and Columbia State Feb. 19-21.
