Chipola jumps on Pensacola early and coasts to 8-0 win

Chipola jumped out to an early lead on Pensacola and captured an 8-0 victory on Wednesday at Marianna, FL.

The game was decided quickly as Chipola exerted its will early with six runs in the first three innings.

An RBI single by Isiah Gilliam, a groundout by Maurice Cooley, and an RBI single by Lazaro Rivera during the first inning and a groundout by Jesse Strickland in the second inning supplied the early offense for Chipola.

Jay Estes reached base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the third inning.

Chipola's Jeffrey Harding kept Pensacola off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up six.

Julio DePena took the loss for Pensacola. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out one.

Chipola piled on two more runs in the bottom of the third. Estes' solo blast got things going.

Chipola got one-run rallies in the fifth inning and the seventh. In the fifth, Chipola scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Biggs, plating Rivera.
