Chipola loses 8-5 to Northwest Florida

Isiah Gilliam did all he could to give Chipola a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Northwest Florida, as Chipola lost 8-5 at Marianna, FL on Monday. 

Gilliam racked up two RBIs on three hits for Chipola. He singled in the third and seventh innings and doubled in the ninth inning. 

James Granat got the win for Northwest Florida. He allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings. Granat struck out six, walked one and gave up three hits. 

Home runs for Northwest Florida came when Onix Martinez homered in the first and third innings and Hunter Bening homered in the fourth inning. 

Northwest Florida's Martinez, Tanner Halstead and Hunter Bening combined for five hits and five RBIs. 

Mac Marshall was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out three, and allowed two runs. 

Northwest Florida closer Shawn Feltner put away the final out to record the save. 

In the bottom of the first, Chipola grabbed the early lead, 1-1. 

The game was never in doubt after the second, as Northwest Florida scored one run on. 

Northwest Florida scored one run in each of the third, fourth, seventh, and eighth. In the third, Northwest Florida scored on a solo home run by Martinez. 

Northwest Florida posted one run in each of the fourth, seventh and eighth. In the fourth, Northwest Florida scored on a solo home run by Hunter Bening. 

One run in the bottom of the fifth helped Chipola close its deficit to 4-2. An RBI single by Jay Estes sparked Chipola's rally. Gunnar McNeill to end the Chipola threat. 

Northwest Florida piled on two more runs in the top of the sixth. The inning got off to a hot start when Aaron Palmer singled, scoring Dakota Dean

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Chipola faced just a 7-4 deficit. A two-run single by Gilliam fueled Chipola's comeback. Will Luft ended the inning by getting McNeill to fly out.
