Chipola tops Northwest Florida in back-and-forth affair, 6-2

Chipola took the last of five lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against Northwest Florida, securing a 6-2 victory on Friday at Marianna, FL. 

Chipola finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fifth inning. A steal of home by Kevin Santa gave Chipola the lead for good. 

Maurice Cooley had two extra-base hits for Chipola. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the eighth inning. 

Northwest Florida couldn't get anything going as long as Adonis Hernandez was pitching. Northwest Florida managed just one hit off of Hernandez, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his four innings of work. 

Chipola was sparked by Cooley and Santa, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.

Avery Geyer was charged with the loss. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed five runs. 

The top of the second saw Northwest Florida take an early lead, 1-0.

It didn't take long for Chipola to respond as it scored two runs of its own in the second. Chipola scored on an RBI double by Cooley and a sacrifice fly by Andrew DiLacqua
