Chipola makes the most of 7 hits in 5-4 victory over State College of Florida

Chipola and State College of Florida both threatened with rallies, but it was Chipola that eventually took advantage of them in a 5-4 win at Bradenton, FL. 

State College of Florida got eight hits compared with just seven for Chipola, but State College of Florida stranded five on base. 

Chipola staved off State College of Florida as State College of Florida was unable to match Chipola down the stretch. 

State College of Florida scored two runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Michael Gizzi. Despite its efforts, State College of Florida couldn't get over the hump. 

Tyler Biggs racked up two RBIs on two hits for Chipola. He singled in the fourth and sixth innings. 

Culver Lamb got the win for Chipola. He allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight, walked two and surrendered eight hits. 

Frank Grandinette ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out seven, and allowed five runs. 

Chipola closer Adonis Hernandez put away the final five outs to record the save. 

The bottom of the first saw State College of Florida take an early lead, 1-0. A solo blast by Mitch Piatnik started the inning off. 

Chipola didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the fourth inning when it scored on an RBI double by Andrew DiLacqua and a two-run single by Biggs. 

One run in the bottom of the fifth helped State College of Florida close its deficit to 3-2. An RBI single by Ricardo Rivera gave State College of Florida life. But, Lamb got Piatnik to strike out to end the inning. 

Chipola added two more runs in the top of the sixth. Jesse Stricklandsingled, scoring DiLacqua to start the inning.
