Early lead gives Chipola victory over Grand Rapids, 11-1

Chipola jumped out to an early lead on Grand Rapids and captured an 11-1 victory on Friday at Marianna, FL.

The game was decided quickly as Chipola exerted its will early with five runs in the first three innings.

A two-run double by Isiah Gilliam and a hit by pitch in the first inning helped Chipola put some runs on the board early.

Gilliam had three extra-base hits for Chipola.

Mac Marshall racked up seven strikeouts in the Chipola win. Marshall allowed no earned runs, three hits and no walks over five innings.

Gilliam, Andrew DiLacqua and Gunnar McNeill helped lead Chipola. They combined for seven hits and seven RBIs.

Garrett Vehl was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.

Chipola piled on five more runs in the bottom of the fourth. McNeill singled, plating Lazaro Rivera to start the inning. That was followed up by Collin Harris's single, scoring Gilliam.

After a quick strike from Grand Rapids, Chipola responded with one run in the fifth. Chipola scored on a solo home run by Gilliam.
