Gunnar McNeill's single propels Chipola past South Florida, 8-4


Four first-inning runs helped Chipola to an 8-4 win over South Florida at St. Petersburg, FL on Saturday.

Chipola scored in the first on an RBI single by Gunnar McNeill, an RBI single by Isiah Gilliam, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Lazaro Rivera

Rivera reached base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. 

Culver Lamb had an impressive outing against South Florida's lineup. Lamb gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his four innings of work.  

Brad Landers was charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out three. 

After pushing across one run in the top of the fourth, South Florida faced just a 4-1 deficit. An RBI single by Austin Bingham fueled South Florida's comeback. But, Lamb got Jorge Flores to to end the inning. 

Chipola answered South Florida's top inning with three runs of its own in the fourth. Chipola scored on an error, a passed ball, and a passed ball. 

Two runs in the top of the fifth helped South Florida close its deficit to 7-3. An RBI single by Isaiah Dean and an error gave South Florida life. The South Florida threat came to an end when David Wright finally got Cullen Lovett to fly out. 

South Florida scored one run in the top of the eighth to cut its deficit to four. An RBI single by Jordan Jackson triggered South Florida's comeback. Finally, McNeill got Chris Kazen to strike out to end the threat.
