Legendary Coach Milton H. Johnson was one of the best to ever coach in junior college basketball. Following a stellar 32 year career at Chipola, he retired in 1993 after winning:

9 Division Coach of the Year Awards
6 Region VIII Coach of the Year Awards
4 FCCAA Coach of the Year Awards
7 Region VIII Tournaments

(followed by appearances in the national tournament)

He was one of the first group of five coaches inducted into the FCCAA Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990 and was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.

The rotating Panhandle Conference Championship trophy is named in honor of Coach Johnson, as is the Chipola gym, the Milton H. Johnson Health Center.
